In this current series of abstract photographs, titled DELAYED ⸻ DEPARTURE, I plunged fearlessly into the heart of experimental photography. This project aims to consolidate a methodology of representation that transcends the mere capture of images, delving into the intricate inconsistencies of the camera in motion and over time and space. The explored methodology unfolds into four distinct vectors, each contributing to the uniqueness of this visual journey:

Digital Inconsistencies: The Ephemeral Nature of Moving Technology
The meticulous approach of this methodology aims to go beyond the traditional boundaries of photography. Each image, captured through calculated exposure adjustments and specific movements, records momentary impressions, highlighting the intrinsic imperfections of the captured moment. The result is an ephemeral and mutating view of reality, revealing the transient essence of technology in motion.
Figurative vs. Abstract Tension: An Exploratory Duality
The duality between the figurative and the abstract is explored as an integral part of this experimentation. This methodology challenges conventional visual representations, creating a field of constant tension between recognizable forms and abstract freedom. In this detached approach, the aim is to challenge traditional perceptions, inviting deep reflection on the subjective interpretation of reality. The observer is invited into an inner dialogue where their construction of reality is projected.

Pixel Plasticity Record: Digital Materiality as Expression
The meticulous study of pixel plasticity constitutes the backbone of this visual exploration. Each image is constructed pixel by pixel, enlarged and reconstructed, seeking a boundary between classical pictorial techniques and new digital records. This impersonal approach highlights the materiality of pixels, transforming them into fundamental elements of artistic expression. The interaction between digital form and analog representation is meticulously unveiled, providing a visually rich experience in textures.

Contemplation of Colour: An Impersonal Sensorial Approach
The contemplation of color is not mere happenstance but a deliberate choice in this impersonal exploration. Each hue is selected meticulously, evoking emotions and triggering sensory responses. The color palette is not just an aesthetic element but a narrative that transcends the visual, inviting a deeper understanding of the interconnection between form, color, and emotional experience.

DELAYED ⸻ DEPARTURE represents a fearless foray into visual experimentation, an attempt to transcend conventions and challenge the boundaries between technology and artistic expression. The employed methodology seeks to capture the ephemeral nature of digital reality, inviting contemplation of the infinite possibilities of representation at the intersection of moving technology and visual expression.

David Marques (1980, Leça da Palmeira, Portugal) Master of Arts, worked closely with Digital Photography in the last 20 years, exploring concepts and processes focused on new product development, design management, and creative processes, honing his craft in the creative industries field.
